In the late 1960s when Tanzania, the then Tanganyika, gained independence – a lot of people weren't ready for something new and that is the drive towards industrialisation. One visionary who believed and thought the exact opposite was our spiritual leader, the late Dr Syenda Taher Saifuddin (A.Q) who was the 51st Da'i al-Mutlaq of the Dawoodi Bohras. When he stepped foot on the soils of East Africa in the 1960s, he visualised Tanzania's path to growth and encouraged his followers to fully support the country's vision of being self-sustainable in production.
It wasn't an easy task to convince his followers to accept the idea of shifting from dukawallas to production. But he didn't give up. He initiated a foundation, invested and selected a few members from his community to invest along with him in the project. One of the establishments that gave birth from this initiative was Tanzania Brush Products. Shabbir Zavery, the now owner of the Tanzania Brush Products, joined the company in 1970 as a Book-Keeper.
Mr Zavery's hard work and perseverance took him to the position of a General Manager in 3 years. In his own words, Mr Zavery took practical part in every production process and built a strong awareness about the machines, production process and working hand-in-hand with all the workers. In 1979, Mr Zavery retired from Tanzanian Brush Company as a General Manager and decided to start his own business.
